Power of Compounding

power of compounding returns

The power of compounding is a well-known concept in the world of investing, and it can have a significant impact on the growth of your investments over time. When it comes to mutual funds, the power of compounding can be particularly beneficial because mutual funds are designed to provide long-term growth.

In simple terms, compounding is the process of earning returns on your initial investment as well as on the returns generated by that investment over time. So, when you invest in a mutual fund, the returns generated by the fund are reinvested back into the fund, which can then generate further returns. This cycle continues, and over time, the growth in the value of the fund can be quite significant.

Let's say you invest Rs. 10,000 in a mutual fund that generates an average annual return of 10%. After one year, your investment would be worth Rs. 11,000. If you leave that money invested and it continues to generate a 10% return each year, after 10 years, your investment would be worth around Rs. 27,000. But if you leave that same investment for 20 years, it would be worth approximately Rs. 67,000, and if you leave it for 30 years, it would be worth around Rs. 1.75 lakh.

As you can see, the longer you stay invested in a mutual fund, the greater the impact of compounding. Of course, it's important to remember that past performance is not a guarantee of future results, and the value of your investment can go up or down depending on market conditions. However, over the long-term, mutual funds can be a powerful tool for building wealth through the power of compounding.
